Shepherd’s Pie

by Chef Olivier Quinn

You can’t beat British pub food on cold, dark rainy nights.  One of our favourites (the addition of the u is in honor of the Brits) is shepherd’s pie.
This is a very simple dish consisting of lamb and potato, British pub food at it’s best, and for the record if it is not made with lamb then it is not “shepherd’s” pie.

A Letter from the Publishers

Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire:  it is the time for home.

~Edith Sitwell

The holidays are finally here and there’s nothing better than gathering around with family and friends enjoying all the season’s festivities.  It is indeed the most wonderful time of the year, as winter in the Santa Clarita Valley brings brisk cooler days and chilly nights.

Disney | ABC Studios at

The Ranch – A Tradition of

Entertainment in the SCV

 by Stephanie Elgin

Santa Clarita is a much sought-after filming destination.  In fact, Placerita Canyon and the Santa Clarita Valley first became a filmmaker’s destination back in the 1920’s.  While much has changed since the days of old, Disney has had its eye on our Valley ever since.
The modern day movie studio was created in Los Angeles in the early 1900’s.  With the popular westerns of their days, many

Great Escape –

Winter Wonderlands

by Stephanie Jimenez

Santa Clarita is one of the best cities to live in for so many reasons.  One of my favorites is how our climate supports so many different types – from the cool beach days of the spring to the extreme dry desert heat of the summer.  The one thing we don’t have is snow, well not regularly.  The last big snow fall in the Santa Clarita Valley took place back in 1989 when the Newhall Pass and Antelope Valley freeways were actually c

A Marvelous Artist

Joe Rubinstein

by Molly Wilson

Most children (and most adults!) are attracted to the vibrant colors and glossy sheen of a comic book cover.  The illustrations are fascinating and the implied action is very exciting to the imagination.  Since drawing is inherently cross-cultural, comic books are also able to reach across and bind different cultures.
